The Synagogue, named “Comunidad Judía Del Ecuador” was built and inaugurated in the year 2000 thanks to the generosity of its members. It is one of the most beautiful synagogues in South America Americas.
In its peak, during and after the war years, the Jewish community had approximately 5,000 members. There was another wave of immigration, this time from Argentina and Chile in the seventies. Presently there are there are only 120 families (about 600 people) that support this magnificent Synagogue/Jewish Center. Not only is this a Synagogue, but it is a complete facility that includes a smaller Synagogue, a complete funeral preparation building, a huge central catering facility and a smaller one, a kosher restaurant (we were invited to have lunch there), a gym, an indoor swimming pool, a mikvah (ritual bath), a full time school and residential quarters for members who do not ride on Shabbat |
